After graduating in 1999, he set out to fulfill his dream of becoming an actor. Tanmay invested in preparing his portfolio and actively sought opportunities in the industry. However, despite his efforts, two years went by without any success in securing acting roles. Tanmay faced the pressure of needing to contribute financially to his household amidst his aspirations for an acting career.

He got a job worth Rs. 700.

Facing the need for financial stability, Tanmay had to make a difficult decision. His maternal uncle, a chartered accountant, offered him a job paying Rs 700 and provided him with a local pass for transportation. At this juncture in his life, Tanmay felt compelled to prioritize practicality over his passion for acting. He resolved to pursue a steady job and temporarily set aside his aspirations in the field of acting.

Tanmay landed a role in a play directed by Dilip Joshi, known for portraying Jethalal in “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.” Though Tanmay’s role in the play was minor, it enjoyed a prolonged run, and Tanmay gained recognition in the Gujarati theater scene. Following this success, he also collaborated with Disha Vakani, popularly known as Daya Bhabhi, in a significant role. This play proved to be a breakthrough moment for Tanmay, bringing him considerable success.

Tanmay would perform in Mumbai during the day and fly to Gujarat for evening shows, maintaining this routine for four months. Eventually, the demands became overwhelming, prompting Tanmay to step back from theater.

In July 2010, Tanmay made the decision to close down his theater activities entirely. However, around the same time, he encountered a setback in his television career as well, as he stopped receiving offers for shows.
