Rahul Murder: Salman used to play cricket with him, but during Delhi riots he killed him, reports Swarajya Magazine

On February 24, Violence erupted in northeast Delhi over CAA in which over 45 people were killed while over 200 people were injured.

During the violence, a 26-year-old youth was killed by rioters. The deceased was identified as Rahul Solanki, who was a resident of Babu Nagar colony, Mustafabad, Delhi.

According to Swarajya magazine, Rahul Solanki, who was pursuing his LLB from a private college in Ghaziabad, had stepped out of the home to get milk for his family. He died after he was shot in the right shoulder near his neck, his father Hari Singh Solanki said.

“He had stepped out of the house to buy milk for tea and ended up getting shot.” he said. 

It has been learnt that Salman, who is one of the seven Muslim men chargesheeted for the murder, used to play cricket with Rahul’s brother. When asked why he did so, Salman told the police that he did it “to save Islam”

According to his father, Rahul, who was working in the marketing firm of a company in Okhla, was standing near Pal dairy street adjoining Rajdhani school and watching the violence spread to his area.

An officer of the Intelligence Bureau was also allegedly killed by a mob of anti- CAA protesters. The death of the IB officer took everyone by shock. The situation became volatile in northeast Delhi.

As the police failed to get the situation under control, NSA Ajit Doval was given the responsibility to bring the situation under control. Security personnel were deployed in several areas of North-East Delhi in the wake of incidents of violence and arson.

A curfew was imposed in affected areas in northeast Delhi and shoot orders were also issued.
