After seeing the popularity of old classic shows like Ramayana and Mahabharata among people in the country, the state-owned broadcaster Prasar Bharti has now launched a new channel DD Retro which is dedicated to specifically telecasting old classics.
The public broadcaster shared the news on Twitter, “To relive the nostalgia of your favourite memorable serials of Doordarshan, watch DD Retro,” it tweeted.
The development comes amid the ongoing shutdown across India. The announcement was made after they found the Doordarshan channel emerging as the most-watched channel of India.
The channel has gained instant popularity across the country after it launched two epic shows Ramayana and Mahabharat. Ramayan has become the most-watched Hindi serial at the moment as people are staying indoors amid the shutdown. In the first week of its re-telecast, Ramayan has garnered the highest ever TRP ratings, breaking records of other serials.
Ramayan is a TV serial that was aired on Doordarshan back in 1987. It was aired for almost 1.5 years and then came to an end. This show is based on the life of Lord Rama. The story revolves around Lord Rama and showcases his entire life.
The government decided to lock the entire nation for 21 days to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 outbreak which will end on April 14. Due to the lockdown, all of the industries have shut down their businesses including the entertainment industry. The shooting of movies and TV serials have been postponed. So the government. decided to re-telecast this epic show in this time of crisis.
As Ramayan came back on DD National (Doordarshan), the channel has grabbed the top position in TRP ratings. Doordarshan has become the most-watched channel across the country in recent times.
