In a shocking development, at least 11 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel have been tested positive for COVID-19, amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
It has been learnt that they came in contact with the deadly virus while on duty at the Mumbai International Airport, the official said. “Five of the CISF personnel had tested positive earlier while six more tested positive on Friday,” he said.
The shocking news has created an atmosphere of fear among CISF personnel. The infected personnel were found at Panvel near Mumbai. Panvel which comes under Navi Mumbai has a total of 14 coronavirus cases at present. The affected CISF personnel were deployed at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai.
“At least 146 CISF personnel including officers were tested,” a senior official from the Konkan Divisional Commissioner’s office told PTI.
After five personnel tested positive, samples of others were collected, the official added.
“Panvel Municipal Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh confirmed that 11 CISF personnel were found to have contracted the virus. It included 10 jawans and one civilian staff,” he said.
The coronavirus, which originated in China has by far, spread more than 160 countries across the world ever since it came to be known. The deadly coronavirus outbreak has killed over 59,000 lives so far and over 11 lakh people have been infected with it globally. In India alone, the confirmed positive cases of coronavirus have surpassed 2,900 till now, while at least 68 people have died in the country from the infection. Thankfully, more than 2.2 lakh people have recovered from the infection globally.
Coronavirus is a contagious disease. This virus spreads through the droplets of coughing and sneezing. It is a battle of life and death and we have to win it. We should join forces in the time of crisis. God Willing the whole world would come out soon of this pandemic.
However, India is making all the necessary efforts to bring the fast-spreading disease under control. But the speed with which COVID-19 is spreading across the globe seems unstoppable.
