Mayoori Kango, who became a familiar figure in Bollywood industry after her 1996 film Papa Kehte Hain with Jugal Hansraj hit the screens. The film didn’t turn out to be a blockbuster, but her song ‘Ghar Se Nikalte Hi’ became a sensational hit. The actress also featured in several other films with A-list stars like Ajay Devgn, Bobby Deol. In 2000, the actress called it quits from the big screen.

After 19 years, Mayoori Kango, today is a prominent professional and has joined Google India as its Industry Head- agency business. It should be noted that she was the managing director of Performics. In the past, the former actress worked as an associate director with Digitas and then worked as a chief digital officer with Media and Zenith.

Not many people know that Mayoori didn’t prefer to join IIT even after clearing IIT JEE Mains. She gave up IIT only to pursue a career in acting. She announced her arrival as a debutant in the 1995 National Film Award-winning Naseem. After Papa Kehte Hai with Jugal Hansraj and Anupam Kher, Mayoori also appeared in films with Ajay Devgn (Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet) and Bobby Deol (Badal).

Besides acting in movies, she acted in the small screen as well as she had appeared in TV serials like Kaahin Kissii Roz, Kittie Party, Kkusum and Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat. In 2003, the actress got married to NRI Aditya Dhillon and moved to the US.

There, she did her MBA in marketing and finance from City University of New York-Baruch College – Zicklin School of Business. The former actress also worked in the US between 2004 and 2012, before returning to India and taking up a job in Gurugram.

In a previous interview with TOI, Mayoori said, “Every time a new client sees me, they have the same question – ‘How come you are here?’ I have answered it so many times that some colleagues suggested that I record the answer.

But I have to prove myself in every new meeting as people have a notion that actors are not intelligent. I have worked hard to make people take me seriously. People should complete their education before they come looking for that big break in Bollywood. Especially the actress, their career in the industry lasts only around ten years. Have a backup option.”
