Meet Brijesh Gajjar – an inspiring icon for political aspirants

Who is Brijesh Gajjar?

Brijesh Gajjar is an Indian origin British politician and during his undergraduate studies in medicine at Cambridge University, he discerned the need for open communication regarding the betterment of our society. Below are the answers to questions that are frequently asked to him.

Question: So, Brijesh Gajjar, why do you support young politicians?

Brijesh Gajjar: Firstly, thank you for having me here. From my time as an undergraduate student studying medicine at Cambridge University, I have first hand witnessed the importance of dialogue and debate, encouraging new perspectives to better communities.

I have been promoting younger people becoming politically active for as long as I can recall, it’s pivotal for a society that is representative of its people. Young people should be involved in politics for several compelling reasons. First, they are the future of their nations, and political decisions directly impact their lives, making their voices essential in shaping policies that address their concerns. Second, youthful perspectives bring fresh ideas and innovation to the political landscape, fostering positive change. Additionally, political engagement empowers young individuals to advocate for issues they are passionate about, promoting social justice and equality. Moreover, by participating in politics, they can hold leaders accountable and ensure government transparency. In essence, involving young people in politics is crucial for a more inclusive, dynamic, and democratic society.

Question: Brijesh, you are a renowned political strategist and tactician and your work has led to some impressive victories when the odds are against the candidates you aid. There was some chatter that you may come on the front line of politics standing as a Member of Parliament next year. Are these exciting rumors true?

Brijesh Gajjar: It may seem paradoxical that as I promote political involvement, I am actively stepping away from political endeavours for now. I feel like I’ve walked into a elephant trap with this personal question. To be completely honest with you, my wife Dr Sumeesha Jaswal and I are in the third trimester of our pregnancy and we are expecting a blessing very soon. As my wife is a psychiatrist, I need to ensure the baby has good formative years and I am proactively around to also be a good husband that my wife deserves. Canvassing my political agenda would limit my family and personal life at this stage and it would go against my family values. I am of the firm opinion that I will not contest a parliamentary seat in the next general election.

Question: Many congratulations, that’s excellent news. Will you consider standing in elections in the future and what will you do in the meantime?

Brijesh Gajjar: As of 12 Septmeber 2023, I was not entirely certain what the future had in store for me. For now, I am focusing inwards; towards my family. My wife
Sumeesha is a poet having published reverie, I hope to sit with her and write a few poems too, whilst giving our golden retriever puppy; Misty, belly rubs. Also my in-laws [Saroj Jaswal and vms Jaswal] haven’t spent much time with us due to being busy biochemists and home renovations in Mohali/Chandigarh, so I relish the idea of a family-moon, especially as they refused to come to our Godh Bharai Rasam. Politics and activism is close to my heart and I am certain it will find a way to flow through me in some capacity in the future”

Since my wife is a poet, I would like to dedicate a poem to the apple of my eye- Dr Sumeesha Jaswal..

In Shimla’s serene embrace, beneath the moon’s soft sheen,
Sumeesha, in her third trimester, a radiant, expectant queen.
A psychiatrist at Himachal’s heart, her wisdom’s sweet grace,
In her tender care, souls find solace in her embrace.

Loreto Convent Tara Hall and IGMC, where her dreams took flight,
Now she shines as a beacon, in day and starry night.
A poet, too, with “Reverie,” her words take flight,
As she awaits new life, bathed in love’s pure light.

In this chapter, as a mother-to-be so free,
Her strength and love, an inspiring decree.
Under Shimla’s canopy, where dreams unite,
Sumeesha’s love and warmth, in the silvery night
