“Kidney racket in Apollo hospital busted, many doctors may be involved in it”

The Kidney scandal has been revealed at South-East Delhi’s renowned Apollo Hospital. Apart from 3 people selling kidneys illegally, 3 touts have been arrested. Joint Commissioner of Police South Eastern Range R.K. P. Upadhyay said that a total of 6 accused have been arrested in this case so far. The name of the mastermind of this racket is Anees.

He used to sell kidneys illegally to those in need of kidney transplants and also used to arrange kidney sellers for this. In this expose, it has come to know that for a kidney transplant for which the patient has to pay Rs 50 lakh, while the donors received only Rs 3 – 4 lakh.

After arresting six accused on Thursday, the police said that the role of kidney buyers and doctors involved in the trade is being probed. On the other hand, sources in AIIMS said that the medical examination of the three accused who sold the kidneys was done in AIIMS, in which it was confirmed that their kidneys were removed. Police said that an FIR has been registered in this matter under the relevant law.

Anees and both his companions are being interrogated as to which doctors; they had relations with. The patients to whom the kidney was sold are also being traced. The police are sure that this business was going on only with the help of doctors. The Joint Commissioner said that with the arrest of 6 accused, the case is still in the initial stage. In the upcoming days, there might be other arrests.
