Impressed by PM Narendra Modi’s work, policies and programmes, Former IPS officer Kuppusamy Annamalai joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday.

He surprised everyone by joining the ruling political party of the Republic of India at the party headquarters in New Delhi. He said that he will work to bring the “nationalist spirit” to Tamil Nadu.

Kuppusamy said that he is inspired by PM Modi’s hard work and that is why he decided to join the BJP party in order to serve the country. He also described himself as a “fan and admirer” of Narendra Modi.

“I will work to strengthen what the BJP stands for and to bring that nationalist spirit to the state of Tamil Nadu,” the 36-year-old former police officer, who has done social work for India’s betterment since quitting the IPS last year, told reporters.

The BJP in a statement said that the former Karnataka cadre officer was known as “Singham” Kuppusamy Annamal, apparently a reference to his image of a tough and dashing cop.

He believes that the BJP is the only party that doesn’t have “dynastic politics, nepotism or sycophancy”. The IPS officer took a decisive decision to join BJP in order to do something for the well-being of the nation after being inspired by PM Modi.

BJP general secretary P Muralidhar Rao, who is his party”s in-charge for the state, said the party has been attracting people from different segments into its fold in the state, which has been traditionally dominated by the two Dravidian parties, AIADMK and DMK.

A reporter asked him why he joined BJP when he was already famous as an IPS officer. He further asked him why he chose to work with BJP in Tamil Nadu state?

To which, Kuppusamy Annamalai replied, “I believe that BJP has the potential to give new direction and vision to Tamil Nadu. I admire Narendra Modi and keeping all this in mind, I thought BJP was the best choice.”

“I really do not know. I am joining the BJP unconditionally. I will take up any responsibility that they give me. I have taken this decision after much thought, he further said.”

Tamil Nadu BJP chief L Murugan was also present at the joining ceremony. Annamalai also had an interaction with BJP national president J P Nadda.

Annamalai had started an organisation ”We the Leaders” with the aim to help youngsters, he said. After joining BJP, Annamalai will have one more responsibility on his shoulder.
