Deepti Sharma receives recognition from Bengal Govt for brilliant performance in World Cup

When it comes to cricket, only male cricketers have achieved countless things those days because they got plenty of opportunities to thrive at the highest level. They have been given all kinds of facilities to make them comfortable in all aspects.

On the other side of the coin, women cricketers were given only limited opportunities to shine in the sport and this is the main reason why they don’t often hit the headlines just like male cricketers. But that’s history now.

Even women cricketers are creating records and achieving great things in contemporary cricket. Thanks to the Board of Control for Cricket in India structure that has been backing its women cricketers in the best possible way. Women have a unique Twitter handle called ‘BCCI Women’. Just like male cricketers, even female cricketers are earning followers on social media.

It is indeed worth applauding that women cricketers are coming through with flying colours in a sport which is dominated by male cricketers. Recently, Indian women cricketer Deepti Sharma received recognition by the Bengal government for her scintillating performance in the just-concluded Women’s T20 World Cup held in Australia.

Deepti was honoured by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Government of West Bengal, for her remarkable show in the marquee event.

She is a professional all-rounder by trait and played an important role in the build-up to India’s journey of reaching first ever finals in the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Deepti leaked only 17 runs in the four overs in the tournament opener against Australia. During the match against Sri Lanka, she claimed one wicket and gave only 16 runs. In the finals, Deepti ended up with stupendous figures of 2/38 in her four overs. She dismissed the likes of Meg Lanning and Ashleigh Gardner.

The Agra-born woman cricketer took to Twitter to express her happiness after she was honoured.

“Privileged to be felicitated by the Dept. of Youth Services and Sports, Govt. of WB. Thank you for this honour Mr. Laxmi Ratan Shukla (Ex- Cricketer, MoS – Youth Services & Sports), Mr. Arup Biswas(Public Works and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister) & Mr. Gurbux Singh (Hockey great),” tweeted Deepti.
