News from China, Assamese girl defeats everyone and wins a shot put gold

Not just men but also women athletes are giving everything to keep the flag flying. Daughters of the nation are breaking gender stereotypes only to write success stories for themselves by making the country proud.

Thanks to Tunlai Narzary. She scripted history winning the gold in Shot Put at the World Police & Fire Games held at Chengdu in China.

“THE GOLDEN SHOT PUT ! Heartiest Congratulations to our very own Smti. Tunlai Narzary of 20th AP(IR)Bn on winning the Gold Medal in Shot Put at the World Police & Fire Games, Chengdu, China. An absolutely stellar performance!,” Assam Police tweeted.

Narzary, who plies her trade in the 20th Assam Police (IR) Battalion, hails from Gilaguri village of Dotma in Kokrajhar district of Assam.

This isn’t the first time she brought laurels to India. Previously, she has won Gold medals in North East Olympic, and 22nd International Competitions of Tatyana Kalpakova, Bishkek, Kyrgystan in Kazakhstan.

She took part in her first international competition in 2013 wherein she was named in the Indian contingent for the second South Asian Junior Athletics Championship.

The same year itself, she settled for a yellow metal with a stupendous throw of 12.09 m in women’s shot put in the National Inter-Zonal Athletics Championship held in Kerala.

Previously, she won a gold in 1st North East Olympic Games and after making her mark in the national circuit, she is now taking her elan to the international arena.
