Actors are revered around the globe and held in high regard by their fans. Their life is constantly on the radar of their fans and audience. The attention that they get from around the world can be inciting at times. Even big musicians and celebrated sports personalities take the leap of starring in movies if presented with the opportunity. 

Let’s take a look at some prominent sports personalities and musicians that tried their hand at acting: 

1. Vijender Singh: 

The famous boxer Vijender Singh turned to the silver screen with the comedy-drama, “Fugly”. But the movie did not do as well as he had hoped so. Dejected, he returned to the ring eventually after taking a break from his successful career as a boxer to pursue acting. 

2. Singer Shaan: 

The playback singer is quite literally as his name suggests the pride of India. The audience and his fans fell in love with him after hearing his voice in songs like, ‘Chand Sifarish, Jab Se Tere Naina, Kuch To Hua Hai, Musu Musu’ and such. After his successful streak as a singer, he decided to work on movies and appeared in movies which include, “Zameen, Loins of Punjab Presents, and Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya”. However, none of the movies performed as well as expected. 

3. Sandeep Patil: 

The cricketer tried to get into the line of acting with the movie, ‘Kabhie Ajnabi The’ after six whole years in the cricket team from 1980 to 1986. During his cricket tour in 1983, he deserted his tour to work on the movie. But after the movie hit the screens it was a disaster and the movie completely tanked at the box office. As a result, this movie was his last attempt as an actor. 

4. Singer Himesh Reshammiya: 

The musician and composer made his mark in the music industry with his unique vocal style and quality. He is considered one of the gems of the industry. However, all that quickly changed once he decided to launch himself as an actor. The fans were not So intrigued by his new endeavour and all the movies he worked in namely, ‘Karzzz, Aap Kaa Surroor, and Xpose’ were all failures. 

5. Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh: 

Honey Singh has established himself as one of the most successful rappers of his generation, his songs have done extremely well and he has dominated the industry with his music and fan following. This enabled the rapper to delve into the world of acting with the movie, ‘Xpose’ opposite Himesh Reshammiya. 

6. Leander Paes: 

The professional tennis player is among the best in the world and is a recipient of many acknowledged titles and honours. In 2013, he worked in the movie, ‘Rajdhani Express’ but the movie did not do well and not many know of his involvement in the socio-political thriller film. After his short work in the movies, he went back to the world of tennis.

7. Mika Singh: 

Even though the singer/composer is a big name in the music industry the audience did not take it well when he debuted as an actor in the industry. The well-known personality has many people grooving to his tunes including hits like, ‘Ibn-e-Batuta, Mauja Hi Mauja, Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag’. The films he worked on only solidified that he was better as a singer. 

8. Sonu Nigam: 

Before establishing himself as the singer that he is today, Sonu dabbled in the world of acting as well. Some of his notable works are, ‘Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani, Love in Nepal, and Kash Aap Hamare Hote’. Although he worked on at least 6 to 7 films he was not quite getting the footing he required after which he showcased his true talent with singing. 

9. Ajay Jadeja: 

Cricketers have time and again been linked to the industry in some way or another, be it relationships with actors or the sports personalities being a part of films. Ajay Jadeja is another such personality that has been a part of the Bollywood industry as well. However, his movie, ‘Khel’ did not do well at the box office and was declared a flop after which he was forced to reconsider acting. 

10. Vinod Kambli: 

All the cricketers who have tried their hand at acting have come to the conclusion that they are better off away from the silver screen. Vinod Kambli is no exception. After appearing in a few movies here and there he decided that he was just better as a cricketer and it is best to stick to what he knows best.
