Yes, you heard right, we are talking about Giani Gurcharan Singh, a traditional sweetmeat maker from the then Layallpur (Faislabad), Pakistan, who migrated to India and set up a shop in Delhi.

Giani Gurcharan’s story is one that needs to be told to inspire the youth. He is today amongst the most successful businessmen in the country. In 1956, Giani Ji began his career with a small shop in Chandni Chowk, Delhi. He started serving his famous rabri-faluda and mango shakes, made with loving attention and dedication, with the best quality ingredients. He has won millions of hearts by delivering the best quality and services to his customers. This shop soon became very famous.

In 1962, Giani-di-Hatti bought its first machine – a second-hand one – but still a huge investment at Rs. 12,000. A few years later in 1970, the business was divided into two entities; Gurcharan Sons and Giani Ice Cream. Over time, Giani ji made changes to his business. He also conducted some new experiments with the product in order to lure his new customers.

He imported a machine from Italy but continued to buy milk from his old farmers. This was the time when the recession hit every sector and everyone was going through a bad patch. But Giani ji with his smart thinking turned the crisis into a golden opportunity for himself. This was the time when he established his shop at Chandni Chowk in Delhi.

It was an era when MP’s and celebrities such as Raj Kapoor and Mohammad Rafi would visit the shop to taste and soak in the atmosphere. Today, with over fifty stores Giani Ice Cream is having annual turnover in crores. Gurpreet, who believes in hard work and dedication, feels that failure is temporary and what one gets with dedication is truly a lasting success. Today, Giani Gurcharan Singh has written a new success story for himself in his chapter for his tremendous success of his shop.
