90 percent people in West Bengal are getting rice at Rs 2 per kg: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made the headlines recently when she said that at least 90 per cent of the people in West Bengal are getting rice at Rs 2 per kg.

On Khadya Sathi Divas, West Bengal CM said that her government has been offering special assistance to those in Jangalmahal as well as the Hills and Aila-affected areas including farmers of Singur along with tea garden workers and the Toto tribe, according to TOI.

“Today is #KhadyaSathiDibas. We have ensured food security of 8.5 crore+ people of ItBangle who get rice at Rs 2/kg. We provide special assistance to those in Jangalmahal & Hill & Aila-affected areas, farmers of Singur, tea garden workers & the Toto tribe,” Mamata Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle yesterday.

The Khadya Sathi scheme was initiated by the West Bengal chief minister on January 27, 2016, a day after Republic day.

According to this scheme that is being to full effect, almost 90 per cent of the state’s population would get rice and wheat only at Rs 2 per kg. It has been said that around 50 lakh more would get the same at half the market price.
