Did UP CM Yogi Adityanath really say “Cows more important than women?” Here is full detail

Rumour

The writer and director of ‘Anaarkali Of Aarah’ has shared the above newspaper part on Twitter with a caption that reads “Bolo Es Aadmi Ko Jute Padne Chahiye ki nahi? (Translating in English- Say this man should be hit by shoes or not? )”. Click here to go through the archived link of the tweet.

The undated ‘newspaper cutting’ has quoted UP CM Yogi Adityanath as saying “our job is to save cows, not girls”. Also, the same picture was shared by an AAP supporter who is followed by senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai.

Investigation:

After searching on Google with a variety of keywords like “Our job is to save cows, not girls” and other different combinations, we couldn’t find any media house reporting this statement by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Upon further investigation, we learnt that this paper cutting was exposed by The Lallantop in April this year. According to their report, this was first published by a humorous website ‘rhumortimes.com’ on 10th April. We found out that this website is not active. But they had the screenshot of the article as you can see in the picture below.

It should be noted that rhumortimes.com was a humorous website quite similar to that of FakingNews.com which often shares fictional stories on ‘real issues’ and real characters.

But an anonymous converted this into a paper cutting using a ‘photo editing tool software’ which is doing the rounds on social media again. It may also be a possibility that some newspaper might have published this report without even cross-checking or verifying the authenticity of the statement and paper cutting is real.

But since we couldn’t find any report shared or posted by the mainstream media which can support the claim that Yogi Adityanath has ever said that our job is to save cows, not girls. It is cognisance of the fact that even a small statement made by higher authorities or leaders are widely circulated on social media and for sure, it is not possible that media would have missed out on this case.

However, none of the media houses has reported UP CM Yogi Adityanath as saying that our government’s job is to save cows, not girls or daughter. The article regarding this has been first traced to a humorous website. Hence, we can come to a firm conclusion that the statement attributed to UP CM Yogi Adityanath is completely ‘fake’.
