Indian archers settle for 3 Bronze medals at Asian Championship, let’s praise them

Indian archers gave absolutely everything in the sport they truly love the most and guess what happened at the ongoing Asian Championship at Bangkok? Despite tough competition in the championship, the archers settled for bronze medals and also ensured at least 3 silver medals. Led by Atanu Das from the front, the players did the country proud

The Indian archers are fighting it out at the tournament as neutral athletes under the World Archery flag owing to the suspension of the national federation, Archery Association of India, AAI.

Atanu Das first settled for bronze in the men’s recurve individual event in the morning. He comprehensively got the better of Jin Hayek Oh of Korea 6-5 in the shoot-off in the bronze medal tussle. Das teamed up with senior pro-Tarundeep Rai and Jayanta Talukdar to outsmart China 6-2 in the bronze medal tie.

He had also clinched a bronze in the recurve mixed team competition with Deepika Kumari yesterday.

On the other hand, Indian recurve women’s team of Deepika Kumari, Laishram Bombayla Devi and Ankita Bhakat beat Japan 5-1 to win another bronze medal for India.

The trio had previously lost to heavyweights Korea 6-2 in the semifinals. The Indian archers also entered the finals of three compound events which is scheduled to be held tomorrow.

Top seeds namely Abhishek Verma, Rajat Chauhan and Mohan Bharadwaj got the better of Iran 229-221 to set up a gold medal clash against second seed Korea in the compound men’s team competition.

Meanwhile Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Muskan Kirar and Priya Gurjar beat Iran 227-221 to enter the compound women’s team final, where they will take on top seed Korea.

The compound mixed pair of Verma and Jyothi have already stormed into the final, where they will clash against Chinese Taipei.
