There are many movies in Hindi cinema which were inspired by books or novels and have also been successful. Most of the people are still unaware of this fact. Let’s know factual facts about these superhit movies.

Here are some movies which are based on books or novels:

Devdas (1955), (2002) – Devdas (1917):

Devdas is a 1955 Indian Drama movie directed by Bimal Roy and based on the Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay novel, Devdas. Devdas is a 2002 Indian romantic drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and based on the 1917 Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel Devdas. Both films have left a deep mark on the film industry. Devdas 1955 is based on the love story of Devdas and Paro. It starred Dilip Kumar, Vyjayanthimala, and Suchitra sen in the lead roles. While in 2002 Devdas film, Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Madhuri Dixit were in the lead roles.

Parineeta (1953), (2005) – Parineeta (1914):

Parineeta is a 1953 film directed by Bimal Roy and Parineeta 2005 was directed by Pradeep Sarkar, based upon the 1914 Bengali novel of the same name by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay. 

Omkara (2006) – Othello (1603):

Omkara is a 2006 Indian crime drama film adapted from Shakespeare’s Othello, co-written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. It starred Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles.

Haider (2014) – Hamlet (1599):

Haider is a 2014 Indian crime drama film written, produced and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. It starred Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor and Kay Kay Menon. The film is based upon Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare.

3 Idiots (2009) – Five Point Someone (2004):

3 Idiots is a 2009 Indian Hindi comedy-drama film directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The movie is based on Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat. It starred Amir Khan, R Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi.

Kai Po Che! (2013) – Three mistakes of my life movie (2008):

The film was adapted from Chetan Bhagat’s English novel The Three Mistakes of My Life. It starred Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles. This film won national and international awards. 

So, several Hindi films have been made after being inspired by books or novels. That means books and novels have always been a big source of inspiration for many directors in Indian Cinema. Most of us have seen these movies based on books or novels but very few might have read these books and novels. People should also read books or novels which really inspire them.
