Rhea was born to an army officer, Indrajit Chakraborty on 1st July 1992. She studied at the army public school in Ambala Cantt. She has a younger brother Showik Chakraborty.
Rhea participated in MTV India show TVS Scooty Teen Diva in 2009, after which she became the youngest VJ on MTV and hosted many shows like MTV gone in 60 seconds, Pepsi MTV wassup, TicTac college beat.
Rhea started her film career with a Telugu film Tuneega Tuneega in 2012 and made her debut in Bollywood with Yash Raj Film Mere Dad Ki Maruti. She also auditioned for the role of Anushka Sharma in Band Baaja Baraat but was refused by Yash Raj Films.

She was also starred opposite to Ritesh Deshmukh in Bank Chor that was released in 2015. She also did her cameo role in the movie half girlfriend, featuring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor.
Reports say that she was dating Aditya Roy Kapoor when she met him on the sets of Action Replay. However, they parted ways after Aditya’s blockbuster release Aashiqui 2.
Rhea met Mahesh Bhatt while she was shooting for his movie Jalebi, along with Varun Mitra.
The movie flopped at the box office. However, the relationship between Rhea and Mahesh Bhatt sparked many controversies as their pictures didn’t go down too well with the audience.
Rhea and Sushant Singh Rajput were allegedly in a relationship since 2019 after they met at a party. They even lived together and Sushant was planning to get married the very next year. However, they broke up one week before the sudden death of the latter.
