After PM Modi, Amit Shah and other BJP leaders change their profile names

A day after starting the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign prior to the Lok Sabha polls,  PM Narendra Modi on Sunday changed his Twitter account handle name to “Chowkidar Narendra Modi”.

Following him, top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders including party president Amit Shah, Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Jagat Prakash Nadda, Harsh Vardhan and Dharmendra Pradhan also renamed their Twitter handles by adding a prefix “Chowkidar”.

The campaign has been launched to counter the Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s ” chowkidar chor hai” dig against the Prime Minister. The party has initiated the campaign as part of its plan to turn the tables as it did in the year 2014 by aggressively countering former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar’s “chaiwalla” jibe.

The Prime Minister also asked participation of all Indians in the campaign using the hashtag MainBhiChowkidar. He said that he is not alone in the fight against graft and social evils..

“Your Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar,” he tweeted, along with the video.

PM Modi is expected to interact with people from across the nation on March 31 as a part of this campaign. The Lok Sabha elections will start on April 11 and continue for over a month till May 19 across 7 phases and then the counting of votes will begin on May 23.
