The recent Calcutta High Court verdict has once again brought those personal struggles to the forefront.
Back in 2018, Shami’s wife, Hasin Jahan, accused him of domestic violence, dowry harassment, and adultery. The allegations were explosive, shaking not only their marriage but also Shami’s professional life. For a time, his central contract with the BCCI was put on hold, making it clear that fame offers no escape from accountability.
Years of legal battles followed. Now, the Calcutta High Court has given its judgment:
Mohammed Shami has been directed to pay Rs 1.5 lakh per month to Hasin Jahan and Rs 2.5 lakh per month to their daughter Aaira Shami, totaling Rs 4 lakh monthly.
“In my considered opinion, a sum of Rs. 1,50,000 per month to the petitioner no.1 (wife) and Rs. 2,50,000 to her daughter would be just fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners…”
This decision wasn’t just a random figure. It actually overturned an earlier district sessions court order that set maintenance at Rs 1.3 lakh per month. The higher court concluded that the earlier amount wasn’t enough to ensure a dignified life for Hasin Jahan and their daughter.
The judgment also made it clear that Shami is free to pay more for his daughter’s education or other needs if he wishes. It’s less about punishment and more about responsibility—acknowledging that a father and husband, even one who is a star athlete, has obligations he can’t turn away from.
It’s easy to forget how different things once looked. Their marriage began with public celebrations—a national cricketer marrying Hasin Jahan, a former model and IPL cheerleader, in 2014. They welcomed their daughter in 2015, sharing the kind of moments that seem picture-perfect.
But behind the photos, things were falling apart. In 2018, the accusations turned personal tragedy into national news.
