Yuvraj Singh names his picks from Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni in the ‘play, bench, sell’ game

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh recently showed his wit when asked to pick between three Indian cricket legends—Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni—in the popular “play, bench, sell” game.

Chatting on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Yuvraj was put on the spot. But he handled it with classic charm and a touch of diplomacy.

For the “play” option, Yuvraj chose Rohit Sharma without hesitation. He praised Rohit’s skills in T20 cricket, calling him an outstanding captain who can change the game in an instant.

“As a player, I would go for Rohit Sharma if it’s T20 cricket. He is an outstanding captain and someone who can change the game with his batting for sure. He will be my first choice,” Yuvraj explained.

When asked who he would “bench” and “sell” between Dhoni and Kohli, Yuvraj cleverly sidestepped the question. Instead of picking either of them, he jokingly benched himself to avoid any controversy.

“I would bench myself, as naming one between Virat and Dhoni would be in the headlines. I don’t want that to happen. We’re all smart enough—we know who needs to go on the bench—but I’m going to stick to Rohit Sharma’s name,” he said with a smile.

Yuvraj’s thoughtful answer showed his respect for all three players. After all, he’s shared the dressing room with them through some of India’s greatest triumphs—winning the 2007 T20 World Cup with Rohit and Dhoni, and lifting the 2011 ODI World Cup with Kohli and Dhoni.

Yuvraj Singh isn’t just one of India’s most loved cricketers—he’s a true match-winner whose performances lit up some of India’s biggest cricketing moments.

One of his most unforgettable achievements came in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup. In that tournament, Yuvraj famously smashed England’s Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over—a feat that instantly became part of cricketing folklore. His powerful batting and fearless approach were key in India lifting the inaugural T20 World Cup trophy.

But he wasn’t done there. In the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, Yuvraj was the star all-rounder for India. He scored 362 runs and took 15 wickets in the tournament, delivering match-winning performances in both batting and bowling. He was rightly named the Player of the Tournament, helping India win its first World Cup in 28 years.
