In today’s digital world, dating apps are seen as quick and easy ways to meet new people. But sometimes, that swipe for love can turn into a costly mistake, like it did for a Delhi-based man who was nearly scammed out of ₹12,000 on a date.

The man took to Reddit to share his unpleasant experience, warning others about the growing scams hiding behind dating apps. What started as a regular date turned into a well-planned trap.

According to his post, he matched with a woman named Bhumi on a dating app. She invited him to Locus Cafe in East of Kailash, Delhi. Once they met, she started ordering Jägerbombs, each priced at INR 1,200.

The man, who said he had a budget of INR 3,000, was stunned when the final bill came to INR 11,958. When he asked to split it, Bhumi claimed she only had INR 100 and suddenly walked out.

To make things worse, a woman claiming to be the café owner, Varsha, approached him and began threatening police action and an additional INR 10,000 fine if he didn’t pay up. Feeling cornered, he called a friend for help.
