In India, food delivery platform Zomato has often been under the scanner for poor customer experiences. Over time, complaints about late deliveries, wrong orders, and quality issues have increased. Now, a recent incident has raised serious concerns about food safety.
A man named Sahil Bansal took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share a shocking experience. He ordered what seemed like a healthy soup from a cloud kitchen called Salads Point in Koramangala, Bengaluru—via Zomato. But to his horror, he discovered a piece of glass in the soup!

Sahil didn’t just complain without proof. He shared photos of the glass piece and screenshots of his chat with Zomato’s support team. While Zomato refunded the cost of the soup, there was no real concern shown for his health or safety. To make things worse, when he tried contacting the restaurant, they refused to even speak to him.
He wrote:
“Ordered from Salads Point, Koramangala via @zomato. Found a piece of glass in my soup. Zomato refunded the soup—no concern for my health or injuries. I called the restaurant. They refused to even talk. @fssaiindia this is serious food safety violation. What action will be taken?”
A Bigger Issue Than Just a Refund
The presence of a glass shard in food is not a small mistake—it could’ve caused serious internal injuries. Many people who saw the post echoed Sahil’s frustration. When we order food, we expect it to be clean and safe. A refund simply doesn’t cover the risk to someone’s health.
Zomato Responds—But Was It Enough?
After Sahil’s post started gaining attention online, Zomato finally responded. They tweeted:
“This is deeply concerning, and we want to get to the bottom of it. Please DM us your order ID, so we can raise this with the restaurant partner and get back to you.”
But for many, this seemed like a standard reply rather than genuine accountability.
Incidents like this raise serious questions. How can customers be sure their food is being prepared safely? What checks do food delivery platforms like Zomato have in place? And why are refunds being treated as solutions, even when people’s health is at risk?
Zomato, once seen as a convenient option for busy urban consumers, is now facing growing criticism for how it handles such issues. As more people speak out, there’s an urgent need for stricter food safety checks, better restaurant vetting, and more accountability from both platforms and food partners.
