Sometimes, the smallest actions show the biggest heart. And recently, Indian Railways proved this yet again. We often hear complaints about public services in India, but stories like these remind us that there are systems and people who truly care.
The recent story of an asthma patient who needed an urgent inhaler on a moving train shows that when it really matters, Indian Railways can move mountains, or at least, medicines to save a life.

A medical emergency on board — and a call for help
If you suffer from asthma, your inhaler is your lifeline. But sometimes, life catches us off guard. That’s what happened to Amandeep Singla, who was travelling by train on June 2.
He urgently needed a specific inhaler — Formoterol Fumarate and Budesonide 200 — but didn’t have it with him. Breathlessness was setting in fast, and he knew he couldn’t wait till the journey ended.
In this moment of distress, Amandeep did something very smart — he turned to social media for help, posting on X (formerly Twitter) and tagging @IRCTCofficial with all the key details, including his PNR, seat number, the next station (Jodhpur), and even a photo of the inhaler.
Frankly, this is the power of modern technology combined with the reach of public services.
Indian Railways responds — and how!
To Indian Railways’ credit, they responded swiftly and reassuringly. The official @RailwaySeva account replied almost immediately, informing him that the request had been forwarded to concerned officials at Jodhpur. They also asked for his contact details to coordinate faster.
Now, we’ve seen people get quick replies on social media, but here, the follow-through was remarkable.
Doctor boards train with medicine in hand
At the next station, something heartwarming happened — a doctor boarded the train with the exact inhaler Amandeep needed.
Not only did the doctor hand him the medicine, but also conducted a quick preliminary checkup right inside the train bogie. Talk about service that goes beyond expectations!
Amandeep was overwhelmed. In a grateful post on X, he wrote:
“It was an amazing experience when the doctor came in train bogie with medicine in his pocket as I asked and did a preliminary checkup. Once again thanks to the entire team 🙏🙏 Jai Hind @AshwiniVaishnaw.”
And honestly, reading this should make us all proud. Indian Railways, which often faces criticism for delays and inefficiencies, showed how, when it comes to a human life, they can act with urgency and compassion.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate this, a doctor, railway officials, and a fast-moving communication chain all worked together to ensure one passenger could breathe easy again.
This is the kind of story we need more of — one that shows the power of teamwork, technology, and human empathy. And it also reminds us that social media, often dismissed as toxic, can be a powerful tool for good when used right.
In a time when news is often filled with negativity, it’s heartening to see Indian Railways step up like this. Here’s hoping we see many more such examples of public services working for the people, with heart.
