Zomato Responds After Customer Receives Chicken Biryani With Veg Sticker

Ordering food online (Zomato or Swiggy) has become a daily habit for many of us. But what happens when your order turns out to be the exact opposite of what you expected, especially when it involves dietary restrictions? That’s what recently happened to a Zomato customer, and the internet is buzzing about it.

A man who had ordered veg biryani from the popular delivery platform Zomato was shocked when he opened the box and found chicken biryani inside — with a green “veg” sticker on it.

Zomato Responds After Customer Receives Chicken Biryani With Veg Sticker

The incident came to light when the customer, posting from the handle @mit_waghela on X (formerly Twitter), shared a video on April 17. In the video, he clearly shows chunks of chicken in the biryani and points out the green veg sticker on the packaging.

He claimed he had placed an order for two biryanis from The Biryani Life — one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian — for his office colleagues. But when the food arrived, both boxes contained chicken biryani.

In his post, he tagged Zomato and wrote: “I have ordered 2 biryani for my office colleague via @zomato one is veg and second one is non veg .. I have received both non veg biryani … In top of that they put sticker of veg biryani.”

The clip quickly went viral, drawing concern from users who questioned how such a serious mistake could happen, especially considering food preferences in India are often tied to religion, health, and ethics.

Zomato Responds

Zomato was quick to notice the post and responded publicly, saying:

“Hi there, this shouldn’t have happened. Please DM us your order ID, and let’s see what went wrong here.”

While Zomato’s team is likely investigating the issue, the incident has sparked a wider discussion about food safety and labeling accuracy. Mislabeling food, particularly mixing up vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals, is not a small error in a country where many people strictly follow vegetarian diets.
