Vijay Shekhar Sharma is an Indian technology entrepreneur best known as the founder and CEO of Paytm, one of India’s leading digital payment platforms.
Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the brains behind digital payments giant Paytm, is not just a successful entrepreneur. He has also got a sharp sense of humor. Recently, Sharma found himself in a rather unusual (and hilarious) situation when he received WhatsApp messages from someone pretending to be… well, him.

Yes, you read that right. A scammer tried to impersonate Vijay Shekhar Sharma and contacted him directly, without realizing he was actually messaging the real Sharma. The goal? To extract sensitive company details like fund availability and the contact information of Paytm’s finance head.
Hilarious Conversation goes viral
The impersonator claimed he had just formatted his phone and therefore didn’t have any contacts. So, he asked Sharma (yes, the real one) to save his “new” number, posing as Sharma himself. To top it off, he casually asked if “he” was in the office!
Instead of getting angry or ignoring the messages, Vijay Shekhar Sharma decided to play along and it was nothing short of legendary. He shared screenshots of the entire exchange on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “Impersonating myself to me”.
As the fake Sharma continued asking for account books and even requested a screenshot of company funds, the real Sharma just went with the flow. The cherry on top? The scammer tried to send an .exe file masked as a GST document and wanted it forwarded to the finance head.
But Sharma wasn’t falling for any of it. In a hilarious twist, Sharma ended the conversation with the ultimate punchline, he messaged the scammer, “I want a salary hike.”
That’s right and instead of losing his cool, Vijay Shekhar Sharma handled a potential phishing scam with charm, intelligence, and a dose of humor. And yes, the internet loved it. His post went viral in no time, leaving everyone amused at how brilliantly he turned the tables.
