Poorva Chaudhary uses reservation quota to clear UPSC, criticized as she flaunts her rich lifestyle

While people become a source of inspiration after passing a prestigious exam like UPSC, a young woman named Poorva Chaudhary is currently facing criticism on social media. The reason is her clearing UPSC using alleged OBC reservation and also openly flaunting her extremely luxurious lifestyle. On this, her father has given clarification, citing the rules.

According to sources, Poorva Chaudhary secured the 533rd rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, but after this, she got embroiled in a major controversy. It is alleged that Poorva misused the OBC Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate, while her father, Omprakash Saharan, is a Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer. But when people came across her social media profile, a controversy arose.

In Poorva’s pictures, she was seen doing expensive international tours, wearing clothes of luxury brands, and living a lifestyle of crores. Especially, the price of a handbag is being said to be ₹ 4 lakh, due to which people are raising questions about whether she comes under the OBC category socially and economically. On this controversy, Poorva Chaudhary’s father, who is himself an RAS officer, came forward and clarified.

He said that his daughter has not done anything wrong; the allegations being made on social media are fake and baseless. People spreading rumors are not aware of the rules. Citing the rule, he said if a person is recruited directly to a post like Class 1 or RAS before the age of 40, then his family does not get the benefit of the OBC NCL certificate. But in his case, it is not so because he became RAS at the age of 44. Therefore, his daughter Poorva has the right to take advantage of OBC NCL.

A debate has started on social media about whether a girl like Poorva, who belongs to a rich and privileged family, needed a reservation. Many users have called it a ‘weakness of the system’ and said that the needy are not getting the benefit of the reservation.
