During Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, the Russian air defense system defeated Pakistan with its tremendous power. The Russian air defense system S-400 did not let a single drone or missile fall from the sky during the attack by Pakistan on India. Meanwhile, Russia has recently offered India to make an advanced version of this air defense system.

According to sources, Russia has proposed the joint production of its state-of-the-art S-500 air defense system with India. The proposal is not only limited to purchase but also includes a proposal for technology transfer. The Russian air defense system S-400 has stood as a shield against Pakistani threats. The power of the advanced version of this defense system is so great that calling it just a defense system would be underestimating its capabilities.
It is a multilayered, multi-target, and space-capable system that can intercept enemy satellites, fighter jets, cruise missiles, and hypersonic missiles. Its range of up to 600 km and exo-atmosphere interception capability make it the most advanced defense system in the world. The estimated price of the S-500 can be 4 to 5 billion dollars per unit.
India is already using the S-400, but the need for the S-500 becomes even more important given China’s hypersonic missile and Pakistan’s nuclear capability. According to sources, the Indian Defense Ministry is considering this proposal. If this deal goes ahead, it will strengthen India-Russian defense relations and make India’s defense system impenetrable to the enemy.
Russia has proposed to India that it become not only a customer but also a partner. If India shows interest, it can become the first foreign buyer of the S-500. If this proposal is agreed upon, India will not only be technologically advanced but will also get a boost to defense production under “Make in India.” This can take the air defense capabilities of the Indian Air Force and Army to new heights. India can become a partner in the co-manufacturing and co-development of the world’s most advanced air defense system.
