The incident came to light after a passenger named Shaurabh Jha posted a video of the man on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), tagging the official handles of Indian Railways and Railway Seva. In his tweet, he appealed to the authorities to take urgent action.

“Respected Sir/Ma’am, it’s a request to you please take a look into this matter. In Bagmati Express at Pt. DDU Junction, a person came in Second Class carrying a snake-like organism and taking money forcefully from everyone,” Jha wrote.

The Indian Railways acted promptly, responding to the tweet and tagging the official handle of DRM Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Division to investigate the matter further. The division’s team asked the complainant for his PNR number and contact details to assist with the investigation.

Following an internal probe, the official handle of Railway Seva shared an update on the findings. According to their statement, CCTV footage covering the arrival and departure of the train was thoroughly reviewed, but no person matching the description of the snake-wielding man was spotted boarding or deboarding the train. Additionally, a full search of the station premises did not reveal any suspect.

“It is informed that in reference to your complaint, the CCTV footage from the arrival to the departure of the train at DDU station was carefully examined. Prima facie, no person carrying a snake was seen boarding or alighting from the train in the video. A thorough search was also conducted in the station premises, but no person matching this description was found. The relevant information has been given to all security forces deployed on duty. If any such person is found in future, appropriate action will be taken against him as per the rules,” the Railways stated.

The incident has raised serious questions about passenger safety and the ease with which unauthorized individuals can board trains. While no arrest has been made so far, authorities have assured continued vigilance and strict action if the individual is identified in the future.
