Virat Kohli’s mistaken Instagram like on Avneet Kaur’s post breaks internet, Kohli issues clarification

When you are Virat Kohli, the most-followed Indian on Instagram, even a tiny tap on the screen doesn’t go unnoticed. Yes, recently, the former RCB captain Virat Kohli found himself at the center of social media chatter, not for his cricketing heroics or a motivational post, but for something as simple as liking a photo.

The picture belonged to actor Avneet Kaur, who shared a stylish snap of herself wearing a green crop top and printed wrap skirt. Kohli’s like appeared briefly — before disappearing. But it was too late. Screenshots had already been taken, and the internet did what it does best: buzzed.

Fans noticed the like and instantly flooded the comment section of Avneet’s post with playful remarks. Comments like “Kohli saab, what is this behaviour?” and “Akaay beta, papa ko phone do” began pouring in, mixing humor with curiosity. After all, when someone as private and composed as Kohli interacts with a post unexpectedly, it’s bound to raise eyebrows.

With speculation building, Kohli took to his Instagram Stories to set the record straight. In a short and respectful note, he wrote:

“I’d like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding.”

His response was calm, clear, and in true Kohli style — dignified and direct.

Interestingly, this came just days after his heartfelt birthday post for wife Anushka Sharma, calling her his “best friend.” That post touched hearts across the internet. The Avneet Kaur incident, however, showed just how closely fans monitor every move he makes online — even the accidental ones.

As for Avneet Kaur, she’s kept quiet on the matter, letting the online buzz speak for itself. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is currently busy playing in the 18th edition of the IPL and is desperate to win the first-ever IPL title as a player with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

RCB are on top of the points table with eight wins and three defeats, collecting 16 points so far. Practically, RCB will need at least one more win in their remaining three games to ensure a Playoffs spot.
