Female Congress leader calls captain Rohit Sharma ‘fat’, BJP reacts

A controversy has erupted after Congress spokesperson Dr. Shama Mohamed made a harsh remark about Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma following his performance in a Champions Trophy match against New Zealand.

After Sharma was dismissed for 15 runs off 17 balls, Mohamed took to social media to criticize him, calling him “overweight” and “the most unimpressive captain India has ever had.”

She further questioned his credentials, stating, “What is so world-class about him when compared to his predecessors? He is a mediocre captain as well as a mediocre player who got lucky to be the captain of India.”

While India secured a comfortable 44-run victory in the match, Mohamed’s comments sparked a political war of words.

BJP’s Sharp Response goes viral

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla hit back at Mohamed’s remarks, drawing a comparison between her criticism of Sharma and Congress’ political losses.

“Those who have lost 90 elections under the captaincy of Rahul Gandhi are calling the captaincy of Rohit Sharma unimpressive!” he said.

Taking another dig at Congress, he added, “I guess 6 ducks in Delhi and 90 election losses are impressive, but winning the T20 World Cup isn’t! Rohit has a brilliant track record as captain, by the way.”

Despite the criticism, Rohit Sharma remains one of India’s most successful captains, having led the team to a T20 World Cup victory and numerous other triumphs. His leadership and achievements continue to be a talking point among fans and experts.

As the debate continues, one thing is certain – cricket and politics often find themselves intertwined in India’s passionate sporting landscape.

Meanwhile, Team India led by Rohit Sharma will lock horns with Australia in the first semi-final of the ongoing edition of the ICC Champions Trophy (50 overs). It will be quite interesting to see how the Men in Blue turn up, especially after their gutwrenching loss to Australia in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2024 final.
