Passenger exposes IndiGo Airlines, Raises Concerns About Different Bag Weights At Check-in Counter

IndiGo Airlines has been facing increasing criticism from passengers over several service issues. From frequent flight cancellations and long delays to poor customer service and low-quality meals, travelers have expressed growing frustration. Now, a new controversy has emerged regarding the accuracy of baggage weighing scales at the airport, leaving passengers even more dissatisfied.

A recent incident at Chandigarh Airport has brought this issue into the spotlight. A passenger traveling from Chandigarh to Delhi noticed a significant discrepancy in weight readings for his luggage. The inconsistency raised doubts about the reliability of IndiGo’s weighing equipment.

Passenger exposes IndiGo Airlines, Raises Concerns About Different Bag Weights At Check-in Counter

The passenger, who shared his experience through an Instagram video, demonstrated how the same bag showed two different weights on separate weighing scales. Initially, his suitcase weighed 14.5 kg on one scale, but when placed on another, it showed 12.2 kg. The 2.3 kg difference led to concerns about whether these machines could be manipulated.

Frustrated by the situation, he remarked, “As a frequent traveller, I just lose faith in the system and the machinery at the airport. This is an important factor because there have been times when I paid extra for the extra luggage I have been carrying.”

In his post, he called for serious action, stating, “I hope this is a rare case and a technical glitch. I generally felt that my bag wasn’t as heavy as it showed, so the lady at the counter asked me to check it on the other belt. And to my surprise, it showed a different number… I hope this is taken up very seriously.”

IndiGo Airlines responded to the viral video, which has gained over 2.5 million views, by clarifying that the weighing machines are certified and regularly calibrated by airport authorities. They assured that the matter would be reviewed by an expert team.

However, the response did little to calm frustrated passengers. Many social media users shared similar experiences, expressing distrust in the airline’s baggage weighing system. Some claimed that such discrepancies might be an intentional way to charge passengers extra baggage fees. Others pointed out that airport operators and BHS (Baggage Handling System) suppliers should be held accountable for maintaining accurate weighing scales.

One user commented, “You saw something wrong with the machine and your complaint was towards the airport. You handled it very well.” Another person said, “Airports have been scamming us clearly.”

With passenger complaints on the rise, IndiGo Airlines must address these concerns to restore customer trust. The airline needs to ensure transparency and accuracy in baggage weighing while also improving overall service quality to avoid further criticism.
