Ranbir Kapoor recently delighted fans with a charming and humorous story from his 2022 wedding to Alia Bhatt during an appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show.
The actor, accompanied by his mother Neetu Kapoor and sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahani, opened up about the lighthearted moments from his intimate wedding ceremony, particularly the playful ‘joota churai’ tradition.

For those unfamiliar, ‘joota churai’ is a fun Indian wedding ritual where the bride’s sisters or friends steal the groom’s shoes and demand a ransom for their return. Ranbir revealed that Alia’s sisters initially demanded a hefty sum in lakhs, but he managed to negotiate it down to a few thousand rupees.
“They asked for a lot, but I brought it down to a reasonable amount,” he quipped. When Archana Puran Singh jokingly called the amount too low, Ranbir defended himself, saying, “We had a small, intimate ceremony at home, so it made sense.”
Neetu Kapoor, who was also present on the show, chimed in, confirming that they did give some cash to Alia’s sisters. She also took the opportunity to reflect on the values instilled in her children by her late husband, Rishi Kapoor. “Both my children are very calm and composed. They’ve never raised their voices at anyone. Rishi Ji taught them the importance of respecting people, valuing time, and being mindful of money,” she shared.
Neetu further elaborated on Rishi Kapoor’s parenting style, recalling how he always gave Ranbir and Riddhima pocket money during their school days. “If they needed anything extra, they didn’t have to ask. I would simply give it to them,” she said, highlighting the balance of discipline and generosity in their upbringing. She expressed confidence that these values would be passed on to Ranbir and Alia’s daughter, Raha.
Ranbir Kapoor, who was last seen in the blockbuster Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has been riding high on the film’s success. Fans are now eagerly awaiting his next project, Love and War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film, which also stars Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, is set to release on March 20, 2026, and promises to be a cinematic treat.
Ranbir’s appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show not only gave fans a glimpse into his personal life but also showcased his witty and down-to-earth personality. His ability to laugh at himself and share candid moments from his wedding further endeared him to audiences, proving once again why he remains one of Bollywood’s most beloved stars.
