Meanwhile, in a shocking development, an Indian Air Force helicopter crashed in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor on December 8, Wednesday. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, was on board the helicopter. 4 people have been confirmed dead in the incident.
Meanwhile, there is no quick information on the condition of General Rawat. As CDS General Bipin Rawat’s helicopter got crashed in Tamil Nadu, people from a certain community laugh at the news. Social media is criticising the people who left laughing reactions over the saddest news.
Indian Air Force took to Twitter to provide an update. “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
Two years ago, General Bipin Rawat was conferred with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, the highest medal for services (that do not relate to gallantry in battle to armed forces officers) according to The Times Of India.
It should be noted that a Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), though a four-star officer of either the Indian Army, Navy or Air Force, will be senior to the service chiefs and only single point of contact between the armed forces and the Prime Minister.
Going through the profile on the Indian Army’s website, General Rawat commanded an infantry battalion along the Line of Actual Control in the Eastern Sector, which is an infantry division in the Kashmir Valley and a corps in the Northeast.
General Bipin Rawat managed several operational responsibilities in many areas, including along the Line of Control with Pakistan, the Line of Actual Control with China including the North-East.
