Sania Mirza is a big name as far as the Tennis fraternity is concerned. She is an Indian professional Tennis player. Sania Mirza is a former doubles world No. 1 and has won as many as six Grand Slam titles in her career.
It is worth mentioning here that from 2003 until her retirement from singles in 2013, she was ranked by the Women’s Tennis Association as the country’s No. 1 player. Sania is the highest-ranked female player ever from India to achieve the ranking of world No. 27 in mid-2007.
Nonetheless, a major wrist injury forced her to renounce her “singles career” and focus on the doubles circuit. Talking about her achievements, she has managed to clinch a total of 14 medals (including 6 gold) at three major multi-sport events – Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games and the Afro-Asian Games.
She was born on 15 November 1986 in Mumbai to Hyderabadi Muslim parents Imran Mirza, a sports journalist and his wife Naseema, who plied her trade in a printing business. After her birth, her family shifted to Hyderabad where she and her younger sister Anam were raised in a religious Sunni Muslim family.
Sania Mirza is also the distant relative of former cricket captains namely Ghulam Ahmed (India) and Asif Iqbal (Pakistan). She took up the sport when she was 6 years old. She has been coached by her father and also Roger Anderson.
On 12 April 2010, she got hitched to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik in a traditional Hyderabadi Muslim wedding ceremony at the Taj Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad, India followed by Pakistani wedding customs for a mahr of ₹ 6.1 million (US$137,500). It is to be noted that their Walima ceremony was held in Sialkot, Pakistan.
The power couple announced their first pregnancy on social media on 23 April 2018. In October 2018, Malik announced on Twitter that his beloved wife delivered a baby boy and named him Izhaan Mirza Malik.
Earlier, in 2018, an 8 old year girl was raped and for which several users launched a protest against the accused. Responding to such an issue, Sania Mirza wrote: “Is this really the kind of country we want to be known as to the world today ?? If we can’t stand up now for this 8-year-old girl regardless of our gender, caste, colour or religion then we don’t stand for anything in this world.. not even humanity.. makes me sick to the stomach.”
Meanwhile, one of the users replied to Sania’s tweet, “With all respect madam which country are you talking abt.Last time I checked u had married into Pakistan. You no longer are an Indian. And if u must tweet thn also tweet for the innocents killed by Pak terror outfits..”
Sania Mirza gave a fitting reply that reads: “First of all nobody marries ‘into’ anywhere .. you marry a person! Secondly NO LOW LIFE like you will tell me which country I belong to.. I play for India,I am Indian and always will be.. nd maybe if u look beyond religion and country one day you may just also stand for humanity!”
