Russian model says if Covid-19 destroys half of humanity, Earth will benefit

A renowned Russian celebrity and model identified as Victoria Bonya faced the wrath of the netizens after suggesting that the demise of a huge chunk of humanity would be no big deal at all as it would be good for the planet.

Victoria Bonya, who is a former participant on the popular reality television show ‘Dom-2’, had recorded the controversial statement on micro-blogging platform Instagram, and the video clip went viral on Russian social media.

In her video, Bonya added that coronavirus is actually needed by the planet as it will be a positive thing for the planet. “Because [humanity] simply devoured the planet, we destroyed the planet. And, to be honest, for me, it’s much worse that the planet will die. And the fact that half of humanity will die out is, to be honest, not so scary.”

The glamour model and Russian celebrity had later clarified her remarks in a written Instagram post.

“Mankind as a whole has become worse than a locust which eats everything in its path and does not leave a living thing! Over the past 50 years, we have killed the planet in a way that no generation has in thousands of years. Such a shake-up, in the form of the coronavirus, should be beneficial to us,” she wrote.

Nonetheless, she further added saying that she does not wish anyone evil, demise, or sickness. She said that she hopes crisis with COVID-19 will “teach us to be aware, appreciate life, appreciate nature, water (rivers, lakes, oceans, and seas), animals, clean air and everything that the planet gives us.”

“Material life has sucked us in, in such a way that we are destroying ourselves, but we don’t feel sorry for ourselves! But the planet is sorry for the pain in our heart,” she said.

Meanwhile, a subscriber asked, “Well, if your friends/relatives turn white, will you write the same thing?” The model retorted that she is ready to pay for “human greed,” and her mother also agrees with her. “You just don’t understand our thinking because you think through fear and fear for your life,” she explained.
