Punjab teacher forcibly marries her 13-year-old student, we're really confused!

She married her student only to overcome ‘Manglik dosha’ in her ‘kundli’ (birth chart) in Jalandhar’s Basti Bawa Khel area. As per India Today report, the woman informed the police officials that her family was abit worried as she was not getting married due to a ‘Manglik dosha’.

The family priest had reportedly suggested that she will have to perform a “symbolic marriage” with a minor boy in order to remove the ‘dosha’ or deficiency. Listening to priest’s advice, the teacher then asked the boy’s parents that he is required to stay at her residence for a week for tuitions. After that, the marriage was conducted.

After his return to his home, the boy then narrated the entire incident to his parents, who then reported the incident to the police. As per the complaint, the boy had alleged that the teacher’s family had forcibly performed marriage rituals including a haldi-mehndi ceremony and ‘suhagraat’ also known as wedding night.

She was later declared a “widow” by shattering her bangles. The family also conducted a condolence meeting. Besides that, the boy was also forced to do household chores, during his week-long confinement.

While speaking to India Today, Station House Officer of Basti Bawa Khel Police Station identified as Gagandeep Singh Sekhon said the boy’s parents registered a complaint but the same was withdrawn after a compromise between the two families.

The report further added that the accused teacher reached the police station, trying to quieten the family and make them withdraw the complaint.
