Court asks girl to pay compensation of ₹15 Lakh for filing fake rape case, further action may be taken

There are many rights and extra privileges provided to women to bring men and women on the same scale. We get to hear many cases of taking advantage of these rights by women nowadays. Something comparable happened in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

A man, who faced trial for over seven years for a crime he didn’t commit, has been awarded a compensation of Rs 15 lakh by a court in Chennai.

He has been acquitted in the case after a DNA test proved he was not the father of the child the woman delivered, Santhosh filed a suit for compensation saying the false rape charge had ruined his career and life.

Santosh said he was about to get married to the woman but the relationship came to an end after a dispute with her family over property. Later, when he was pursuing engineering in a private college, the mother of the woman told his parents that he had impregnated her daughter and demanded that they be married immediately.

When Santosh denied having any relationship with the woman, she and her family filed a rape complaint against him. Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Santosh and arrested him. He was produced in a court which ordered to remand him in judicial custody for 95 days. Later, he was released on bail on February 12, 2010, The Times of India reported.

By this time the woman had given birth to a baby girl. She claimed that Santosh was the father of the baby but the child’s DNA test proved that he was not her father. Then after a trial that went on for more than seven years, a Mahila Court acquitted Santosh on February 10, 2016.

Following this, Santosh filed a compensation suit against the woman and her family, seeking Rs 30 lakh as damages. He said the false rape allegation has destroyed his career. Deciding the case, the court awarded him Rs 15 lakh compensation payable by the woman and her parents for implicating him in the false case.
