9th class girl from Himachal sings a song in her local language, gets praises from PM Modi

Devika, a student from Kerala, received praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for singing a folk song from Himachal Pradesh as her performance strengthened the idea of One India, Great India.

The song became viral on social media which garnered thousands of likes. The girl said that it was her teacher who taught her how to sing a song. 

PM Modi has shared a news report about the student studying in class 9th on his Twitter handle and praised her melodious voice. He tweeted in Malayalam, sharing this news broadcast on Manorama News Channel, “I am proud of Devika. Her melodious song reinforced the essence of Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat.”

It is said that Devika had sung the Himachali song under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’ programme. Her teachers shared the song on the school’s Facebook account and the video went viral in no time.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had also congratulated the girl on Facebook.

Devika expressed her gratitude to PM Modi. Reacting to the PM’s tweet, Devika told a news channel, “This is unbelievable. I am very happy. When I sang the song, I never thought that I would get a compliment from the Prime Minister.” She also thanked the Prime Minister for enjoying the song.

“I never expected this(the video to become this popular). I haven’t learnt music before but after hearing this song, my teacher taught me music,” Devika told ANI.

She added, “I thank my teacher who recently encouraged me to sing and also taught me music. I want to become a doctor as well as a playback singer in the future.”
