Handicapped Son of Abdul Majid Ali scores 86% in board exams, makes his father proud

You all must have heard the English proverb, “where there is a will, there is a way”, but this handicapped boy in Assam is living proof of the idiom. Handicapped by birth, Abdul Majid Ali was told he will not be able to write his examination. But, Ali did not let his disability hold him back, rather he wrote a success story.

Ali proved them wrong and scripted history by scoring 86% marks in Assam HSLC exams. Nothing is impossible and in fact, the word itself says, I’m possible. This phrase completely complies with Abdul Majid Ali. The 16-year-old son of a daily wage worker thinks out of the box and going by this progress at a brisk pace, he is certain to go places in the years to come.

Ali says he has proved to himself that his dreams can become a reality and he can change his household’s circumstances. “We do not have a lot. My father is a labourer at a close-by firm and helps with loading and unloading vans. Cash has all the time been scare. However my mother and father by no means requested me to surrender research. My mom all the time stated to everybody that I cannot solely to learn to write however I can even high sometime. She has been my largest supporter,”

Ali says his mom started teaching him how to hold a pencil since the age of 3 and he has been practicing since.

“I am totally capable of writing my exams. But sometimes it takes longer than three hours. The school allows me four hours to finish the paper. This session, I was able to submit my Arabic answer sheet under 3 hours while Maths exam took four hours to finish,” said Ali.

Ali wrote his examination in Dhopatari Silbharal High School where he was provided with an assistant to help him turn the pages or tie sheets. When asked about his inspiration, Ali without giving a second thought took the name of the late physicist Stephen Hawking.

“I saw him in a video. He was not able to talk like us or walk like us and I realised that I have so much more. I like science. And I try to understand Hawking’s research. He is a big inspiration,” he said.
