Husband gives poison to Hindu wife after she refuses to convert to Islam

In a heart-wrenching incident, a Mumbai-based former model, Rashmi Shahbazker, 42, has alleged that her husband is forcing her to convert to Islam and had brutally beaten her when she refused to convert.

She filed a complaint against her husband for allegedly forcing her to convert to Islam at Bandra police station. According to the complaint filed by the woman, her husband Asif tried to kill her when she refused to convert.

Senior Police Inspector Pandit Thackeray said that the 42-year-old former model arrived at Bandra police station at 2 a.m. on Saturday with head injuries. Mr. Thackeray said, “The complainant was crying. She told us that her husband, Asif, had started resorting to violence after she refused to convert to Islam.”

It has been learnt that Asif demanded money from her and even tried to poison her twice. Shahbazker got married to Asif 12 years ago and she was very clear that she would not convert to Islam after marriage and both would respect each others faith.

Ms Shahbazkar said that Asif harassed and attacked her after he married another Hindu girl a few months ago. The Bandra police have registered a case against Asif under various sections and further investigations are underway.

The couple has a seven-year-old son. Ms. Shahbazker said, “He is raising our son to be like him, teaching him to despise other religions. I was heartbroken when my son recently told me that I am not a nice person as I do not offer namaaz and perform Hindu rituals instead.”

A video also went viral on social media in which Ms Shahbazkar can be seen crying over being beaten by her husband. In the video, the woman alleged that she was forced to convert to Islam, she further accused her husband of love jihad.

The police have registered a case of domestic violence against Asif under Sections 354, 323, 324, 504, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Mr. Thackeray said, “We are verifying the allegations. We will take action after a full investigation.”
