Heartbreaking: Asian Student dragged, ruthlessly beaten over Coronavirus Racism

No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin or his background or his religion. People learn to hate and if they can learn to hate, they can also be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.

The racist attitude to judge people on their caste, creed and colour is still witnessed these days. It is indeed shameful to see racist incidents are present in society.

Why do we fail to understand or remember that there is a lot more beyond the skin colour? The only thing that matters is talent, skill, positive thinking, the attitude of the person.

In a shocking incident in Australia, a pair of international students are now scared to leave their residence after being ruthlessly beaten in a racially-motivated attack.

The racism incident was caught on video, reportedly took place near Elizabeth St. in Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD) around 5:30 p.m. on April 15.

The female students who came from Southern Asia have been studying at the University of Melbourne for many months. The incident reportedly occurred after the pair saw young women abusing other people.

“They were yelling ‘get out of our country’ at the other group,” one of the students told 10 daily. “It wasn’t directed at us, but then we made eye contact and they started saying it to us.”

According to the video, one of the students is seen being punched frequently in the head before getting pulled by the hair and kicked in the stomach.

Meanwhile, another student is seen being blocked from assisting her friend by the attacker’s companion.

A man with a dog is seen intervening and successfully halting the attack. At the same time, another woman is seen intervening between the student attempting to help her friend and the woman blocking her.

The conversation goes like this: “You’re a fcking imbecile! Don’t fcking hit me!” the attacker yells at her target before conveying sorry to the man who intervened.

The victims reportedly picked up minor injuries from the attack. Victoria Police confirmed the time and location of the incident.

The attacker who sported a dark top with a light-coloured skirt is described as Caucasian about 20 years of age and 150 centimetres (4 feet 11 inches) tall, with a skinny build and shoulder-length brown hair, according to 9News.

The other offender is known to be Caucasian and of similar age, with shoulder-length blonde hair.

To make things much worse, a man sporting black puffer jacket with a black backpack reportedly stole AirPods from one of the victims. He was there in the vicinity but was not involved in the attack.

The students had reportedly claimed that they have suffered abuse three times in the last few weeks, with people doing fake-coughing or yelling coronavirus at them.

The University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor Duncan Maskell lashed out at the attack by calling it a disgrace and had urged anyone with information about the offenders to contact the police.

“This is a disgusting and unprovoked attack on two of our female students,” Maskell added. “There is no place for violence in a modern, future-facing society like Australia. These senseless and vicious attacks on two young women must never be tolerated in our community. The people who did this are a disgrace.”
