Lockdown side-effect, wife files an FIR against husband for cheating in Ludo game

Amid the ongoing nationwide lockdown, people across India are staying indoors to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. Though the measures are yielding positive results, it is a dangerous scenario for the couple who face domestic violence.

In a recent incident reported from Punpal Pur village in Farrukhabad District, a couple stirred controversy while playing Ludo at home. The couple is said to be from Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh. The duo was playing a Ludo game at home to avoid boredom during the shutdown. The wife alleged that the husband cheated with her in the Ludo game.

The woman filed a complaint with the police against her husband for cheating with her in the game. The man, who is a resident of Punpal Pur village, got married five months ago. He is a farmer and does not go outside due to shutdown across the country. He often plays Ludo to pass time. It was Friday when he was playing Ludo with his wife, then his wife created a controversy after she blamed that her husband cheated with her in the game.

The woman dialed 112 number and told the officials that her husband was beating her. After a while, cops reached her home and asked them about the matter. Later, it was revealed that the matter was about the Ludo game, not beating the wife.

Police who treated this as a family dispute tried to hush up the matter but the lady stood by her words. Police officials then took both of them to the police station and made them understand. Police inspector R K Rawat said that the dispute erupted between the two as a result of the Ludo game.

Many countries around the world have announced lockdowns to check further spread of COVID-19. Closures have proved effective measures for battling the pandemic, but they have also exposed gendered inequalities and the threats to women across the world.
