US prez Donald Trump requests India to supply Hydroxychloroquine tablets to fight Covid-19

Dark clouds loomed large over the United States as the number of coronavirus cases is continuously increasing day by day in the country. By far, confirmed positive cases of coronavirus have surpassed 3.3 lakh, while at least 9,620 people have died in America from the infection.

But US President Donald Trump is still standing by his words that he is not going to announce a lockdown in the USA even after thousands of people have lost their lives.

Seeking help from India, President Trump said that he recently had a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on releasing the amount of Hydroxychloroquine ordered by the United States after India last month banned the drugs for exports.

Trump said that he had a word with Prime Minister Modi on Saturday morning and made a request to release Hydroxycholoroquine for the US.

“I called Prime Minister Modi of India this morning. They make large amounts of Hydroxychloroquine. India is giving it a serious consideration,” Trump said at his daily news conference at the White House on Saturday.

Scientists across the world in particular in the US are working day in day out to discover a vaccine or cure to the coronavirus that has spread in over 160 countries and killed over 70,000 lives so far and over 12 lakh people have been infected with it globally.

India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade on April 4 announced that India would stop the export of Hydroxychloroquine with immediate effect amid the nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus. As everyone knows that the situation in the United States is going from bad to worse. Now, after realizing that India may help in the time of crisis, Trump sought help from PM Modi to allow the export of Hydroxychloroquine.

Trump said he would appreciate if India releases the amount of Hydrocoralline that the US has ordered.

“And I said I would appreciate if they (India) would release the amounts that we ordered,” he said, without mentioning that quantity of Hydroxychloroquine that has been ordered by US companies from India.

Trump said that people in malaria affected-countries consume Hydroxychloroquine and not many people are infected with COVID-19. Trump said that he would take Hydroxychloroquine, if needed.

It is really a matter of pride for every Indian when the world’s superpower country asks India for help in this hard time. At a time when the entire world is going through a bad patch, when the biggest of the nations may have succumbed to the COVID-19 battle, the most powerful country looks at India with the hope that India would help them fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
