Singer Kanika Kapoor tested positive for Coronavirus, fear among Bollywood celebrities

Amid growing coronavirus tensions, Indian playback singer Kanika Kapoor has been tested for COVID-19, making her the first case of the disease in the Bollywood industry. She has been kept under medical observation in an isolation ward in Lucknow.

The 41-year-old singer, best known for her songs Baby Doll and Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan, showed initial symptoms of the virus.

It has been learnt that the actress had a travel history to London. She returned to Lucknow on March 15 and hid the information about her travel history. As she arrived in Lucknow, Kanika threw a lavish party for her friends and family at a five-star hotel.

Bureaucrats, politicians and socialites were seen at the party. The singer

stayed in a sprawling apartment in Lucknow. Now, the entire building may be placed under quarantine, according to medical officials. 

While speaking to Aaj Tak, Kanika’s father Rajiv Kapoor said that she attended three parties after arriving in Lucknow from London. Six members of the family are undergoing tests. Kanika has hosted three parties after her arrival. She came in contact with around 350-400 families in three parties. Along with Kanika, we are also in isolation, Rajiv Kapoor told Aaj Tak.

However, reports of Kanika dodging airport authorities are false. Kanika went through the test at the airport and nothing was reported at that point of time, Rajive said. 

By far, the virus has affected over 2 lakh people globally and the global death toll has risen to at least 9,000. Thankfully, 85,749 people have recovered from the deadly outbreak.

In India alone, the confirmed positive cases of coronavirus have surpassed 160, while 4 people have died in the country from the infection.

It has been learnt that the coronavirus pandemic has claimed the lives of at least 3,158 people in China alone and 4,325 worldwide, as per the experts.

Even as China is finding it tough to bring the widespread infectious disease under control, several countries across the world are reporting cases of COVID-19. People lost their loved ones to the deadly disease which originated in Wuhan, China.

India is making all necessary efforts to prevent the fast-spreading disease. The entry of all international flights to India will be banned from March 22 to March 29. No international flights will be able to land in India from the effective date.

In the video, Kanika can be seen being shifted to the hospital after testing positive.
