It has been learnt that the District administration of Uttara Kannada, Karnataka has been on a high alert ever since the virus infection started spreading. They have even set up quarantine including medical facilities across the district in order to check the incoming passengers to ensure that the deadly contagious virus is not spread. In fact, the district authorities have also launched a door-to-door campaign in a bid to carry out medical checkups to determine the impact of the global pandemic.

Likewise, the district officials tried to carry out a medical checkup in Muslim-dominated areas of Bhatkal. Four Muslim youths, who returned to the city from Dubai on Friday, were asked to undergo the medical check-up as a precautionary measure. Previously, another person who had returned to the city from Bhatkal was suspected to be carrying symptoms.

Nonetheless, four Muslim youths threatened the health officials and asked them to return. The Muslim youths even objected to carrying out any medical tests while highlighting the fact that Islam does not permit such tests.

The deliberate negligence by the Muslim youths citing their religion to not allow such medical checkup has now put a lot of other people in the city at huge risk.

Meanwhile, the locals residing in that area are now demanding that the district administration should take them into custody and quarantine them to confirm whether the four Muslim youths are actually subjected to COVID-19.

On the other hand, the Uttara Kannada district officials have also quarantined as many as 14 people belonging to a single-family, who returned from a religious trip to Mecca and Medina. The family members had visited Saudi Arabia with a 76-year-old man who succumbed to coronavirus last week and thus becoming the first person in India to die due to the novel coronavirus.
