Ever since the Citizenship Amendment Act was passed by the Parliament, women along with their children have been staging a dharna at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi for over one month. One of the women gave an inflammatory speech at Shaheen Bagh. She said we do not teach our kids Twinkle-Twinkle, we teach them Jihad of Karbala.
These women are protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Population Register (NPR) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC). It is said that women of Shaheen Bagh have been peacefully protesting against the CAA, but a video has surfaced on social media in which a woman of Shaheen Bagh can be heard saying, “We do not teach our children Twinkle-Twinkle poem, we teach them Jihad of Karbala. We will continue to protest against the CAA until it is revoked”. She further said we would not leave the country come what may. However, there is no provision for the Indian citizens in the amended act, they are still protesting against the bill and spreading propaganda across the country.
For over one month, thousands of protesters, led by hijab and burqa-clad Muslim women, have blocked the main road near Shaheen Bagh. They came on the road to protest against this new law which has nothing to do with Indian citizens. This new law aims to give Indian citizenship to those minorities who have faced religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Anyone belonging to Hindu, Jain, Buddhist, Sikhs, Parsi or Christian communities from these three countries who have come to India before 2014 after facing religious persecution and already living in India will be given citizenship under this amended act.
But these women of Shaheen Bagh have been misled by opposition and miscreants for protest against the law. Just two days before, Jamia media coordinator threatened to shoot everyone while speaking with Republic TV. He said ek ek ko goli marenge (will shoot one by one) from Republic TV channel. Protesters are creating a violent environment in the country in the name of protest against CAA.
Recently, the mastermind of Shaheen Bagh and JNU student Sharjeel Imam made an inflammatory speech against the Citizenship Amendment Act at Shaheen Bagh in New Delhi. He said, “India should be made an Islamic state” after which he was arrested by the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch from Bihar’s Jehanabad. This is what going on at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi in the name of protest against the CAA.
