Periyar statue demolished after Rajinikanth refused to apologise for his comment

Amid the ongoing tension in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu, Periyar statue has been demolished by unidentified miscreants in the early hours of Friday. Culprit persons are yet to be ascertained who carried out this incident. 

The actor Rajnikant put himself in trouble after he made a controversial comment on Ram and Sita. Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam started staging protests against the actor over his remarks on E.V. Ramasamy ‘Periyar’.

after which a complaint was filed against him for his comment on Periyar. The actor claimed that new pictures of Ram and Sita were displayed in 1971 rally of Periyar. He said, “Nude images of Ram, Sita shown at Periyar rally.” The actor has refused to apologize for his comment and said, “There is nothing to apologize for what I stated was fact and he stands by the comment that he made” he further said.

However, the police have already launched an investigation into the case. The face and right hand of the Periyar statue were found damaged by people on Friday morning and alerted the police who rushed to the spot and covered the bust with a tarpaulin sheet. Senior police officers reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter. Following the incident, police forces have been deployed in the local area. 

A complaint was lodged against a group of people who threatened the actor to death in public. This complaint was submitted by Sinora P.S. Ashok, an advocate and an office-bearer of Rajini Makkal Mandram to the City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan on Friday evening. Mr. Ashok said the commissioner promised him that quick action would be taken on the complaint.

The complaint alleged that there was a protest by DVK cadre led by R. Umapathy at Semmozhi Poonga against Mr. Rajnikanth. At the protest meeting, the group openly threatened him in the presence of the media.
