Meet Neeraj Gupta- The man who took loan from his wife and built a Million Dollar company

Neeraj Gupta is a founder of Meru Cabs and hails from a business background. He plied his trade in a textile company for some time and then didn’t get enough options to earn money and hence had to spend a lot of time at home. On the contrary, his beloved wife has been a worker of Jet Airways.

Since her wife got a job just after her graduation, he spent all his time just to pick and drop her wife at the airport. “My wife got a job just after her graduation and I spent all my time just picking and dropping her from/at the airport”, Neeraj Gupta recalled.

However, life soon changed for Neeraj Gupta from nothing to building a million-dollar company. After five long years, he took help from wife by taking a loan of Rs.50,000 and then he decided to use full use of the money to better effect. With that money, he started a business by renting a garage in Andheri to fixing the problems in automobiles and his idea changed his life.

After working hard beyond the bounds of possibility, in just a brief span of time, Neeraj Gupta managed to have Blue Dart and Sony as his major clients. He also decided to open a bus service for corporate employees and also had a contract with TATA Group. For this, he again took a loan of Rs 14 lakh. After 6 years, Meru Cabs started to appear.

While Meru Cabs started to hit road, the earning became very complex for radio cabs that operated on meter basis. On the contrary, there was Neeraj’s masterclass towards his brilliant idea.

Just in a few months, the India value fund turned out to be the first company to invest in Meru Cabs. Today, as many as 9,000 cars run under Meru Cabs in 6 cities which are making average trips of 30,000 each day. Meru Cabs’ yearly turnover is around Rs. 800 crores.
