Inspiring story of Mumbai’s education icon- Dr. Lal Tanwani, who founded PADMA institute

Nobody can indeed inspire us as much as our teachers can. Teachers help us discover things about ourselves that we can’t see through. Dr Abdul Kalam has rightly said that teaching is a very noble profession as it shapes the character, calibre, and future of an individual. Dr Lal Tanwani is one such inspiring educator. Let me take you through his remarkable journey from Student Lal N Tanwani to Dr Lal N Tanwani. 

Success never happens overnight. You have to work on it day and night. You’ll make little steps but when you succeed you’ll look back and see how far you have come. In a nutshell, hard work is the only way to achieve milestones in life. 

Dr Lal Tanwani, who is a prominent leader, and master in the sky of education at the National and International levels, is a much glittering star in his field. This DOWN TO EARTH MAN has gone through a lot of struggles, experiencing ups and downs throughout his life. His journey allows us to learn from what he experienced.

Lal Tanwani hailed from an underprivileged family. He is the 5th son of 9 siblings. His father was a poor roadside Hawker and ergo had to struggle a lot to meet daily expenses. Despite adverse conditions, Mr Tanwani managed to complete his education, studying under street lights, as there was no electricity in the locality he lived. The whole family had to live without light as dusk fell engulfing the sun.

Mr Lal wanted to pursue further study, however, his father could not afford the fees for the courses. He approached the local member of the legislative assembly (MLA) for his school and college fees so that he could get a graduate degree without ruining a year owing to monetary problems. Meanwhile, a splendid idea hit his mind. He then decided to jump into the teaching field.

At a very young age, he started his teaching work with one student. He alongside joined Birla College as well to earn some extra bucks to support his family. He started his coaching class from his home which subsequently came into the eyes of several students. He gave a name to his coaching classes “PADMA” worked according to plans and began receiving admissions after admissions. Sooner Padma coaching classes were flooded with numerous students. His responsibility for coaching students increased manifold, and thus he had to resign from the college.

In his initial days, the man had gone through many ups and downs but he emerged stronger with every difficulty he faced and became a legendary teacher. His dedication earned him huge respect among students.

After completing his M.A, Professor, Lal Tanwani extended his branch-Padma Institute

of Knowledge in Kalyan. Along with teaching, Professor Lal kept his focus on enhancing his knowledge power. The journey from Lal Sir to Professor Lal N Tanwani and then to Dr Lal N Tanwani was no bed of roses but full of struggles. He was honoured with Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam’s Lifetime achievement award. He is the recipient of several other awards as well including Dr RadhaKrishnan Gold Medal Award and International Achiever’s Award in Education Excellence for outstanding contributions to the very field.

  • Past President of the Rotary Club of Ulhasnagar Midtown & Lion’s Club Ulhasnagar.
  • Guidance to enormous students for C.A, MBA and many more who are at the top level of Hierarchies.
  • Conducted more than 100 Motivational Seminars in Colleges and educational institutes.

He wishes to keep learning and gathering knowledge from various fields, till his last breath. PADMA to provide Free Education to students who can’t afford to get admission in his highly reputed coaching class. Dr Lal N Tanwani sacrificed all his comforts to be where he is today. He is known for producing toppers but the effort it takes to do that is enormous.
