After heavy snowfall, Nagaland turned into a Winter Wonderland, check out pics

Nagaland hit the headlines for receiving good snowfall and Zunheboto, Kiphire, Phek and Tuensang were greeted with a heavy snowfall last week after a gap of 37 years. Over the past three days, the temperature plummeted below 5 degree Celsius at some places of the region.

However, the situation is the worst in Kohima, where the lowest temperature recorded in 2019 was 3 degree Celsius. A warning has also been issued at isolated places.

People on the internet have been sharing pics and video clips of snowfall in Luvishe and Shamator village, and Dzokou Valley in Nagaland. They are simply stunning.

Netizens called it as ‘winter wonderland’. The streets, roads and highways were covered in hailstones, in what seemed straight out of foreign countries.

Locals, passersby were astonished to see it and they couldn’t believe it at first sight. Thrilled by it, they took snaps and posted it on social media.

Some also said that the unusual snowfall could be attributed to the unpredictable weather conditions due to climate change.

Speaking to The New Indian Express, Scientist Sunit Das of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati said: “The synoptic system responsible for this event may be attributed to a passing Western Disturbance as an upper air trough that was running through the region.

Due to the presence of this system, cold northerly winds were seen penetrating into the lower levels of the atmosphere over the region.”
